The Beatles are the most talked about, written about, discussed, analyzed, and dissected group in the history of music. Almost all of the Beatles’ songs are liked by some segment of Beatle fans. The actual “most popular” Beatles song is up for grabs. Various polls on the subject have been conducted, with diverse results.
Some like the love songs, some like the hard rock, some like “John songs,” some prefer the “Paul songs,” some like the later, freakier stuff, and some like the simplicity of the early stuff. But always, in every poll on the subject ever taken, one song stands out, alone and undisputed, as the “least popular” Beatles song of all-time.

KInd of a fun little thing…
The only thing that I don’t like like about posting these videos is that many times they get yanked after a short period of time and then I’m left
These days, especially around the holidays, it seems so difficult to get much accomplished with all of the work to be done, shopping, holiday parties, cooking & cleaning, washing, mowing the cats, milking the chickens, and especially, guitar playing going on at all hours of the night into the wee hours of the mornin’!
So it’s really looking like time for a little something nostalgic and kind of fun that was actually even new to me to help me take a few moments to catch my breath.
It’s a fun little video sent in by the infamous (or should I say famous) Bobby Fury – a man who is – and I quote “thee ‘Beatles Authority’ on this side of The Pond”, who makes the trip twice a year back to the ‘Homeland’ as ‘Fab Findings & Concerns’ beckon his consciousness. Bobby Fury is also known here in the ‘new world’- America(“America is kind of like Britain with buttons”) as Bob Mytkowicz – see https://www.jackaboutguitars.com/gear-instruments-beatles-mytkowicz)
I had a pleasant conversation just yesterday evening with Mr. Fury in which ‘The Furious One’ told me of his latest escapades in the land of the Fab Four. (You see, I have lived a secret ‘Beatle Life’ vicariously through Mr. Fury and his trips to the Motherland for many years now and hope that someday ‘The Storm’ will be able to make the trip just once before the long lasting condition of ‘worm food’ sets in for good(or in this
I know, I know. There are so many almost completed interviews to run, product reviews waiting, sections of the blog needing more material, sections of the blog waiting to become sections as they sit idly by wanting & needing attention so they can just BE – telling of content to come, which will actually be pretty darn cool – when it finally gets finished and posted, and even a load of hidden gems just waiting to be published once they are secretly placed within the blog where they will only become discovered by accident. WHEW! These things do take time. Enough. But another Beatle post? Just a quick one because … it was there. Now on to the quick post.
What’s with all of The Beatles stuff lately? Well, I did cut my teeth on this music so it’s pretty engrained in my guitar roots. Please bear with me and keep sending in the ideas and comments and I’ll try to get them posted. Thanks!
THE BEATLES FREE AS A BIRD – UNRELEASED
Here’s a very cool video sent in by Gerard Huerta which is one that I hadn’t seen before and have really enjoyed watching it more than once since I received it. The main reason that I feel that it’s worth sharing here on the blog is the awesome value that the contents of the jukebox have played in music. Talk about some real rock and roll history!
The contents of John Lennon’s Jukebox video is a 48 minute documentary about a jukebox that was owned by Beatle John Lennon in the 1960’s. This jukebox was a “portable traveling companion” of Lennon, used in much the same way we would use an iPod today, except for the fact that an electrical outlet was needed to operate the jukebox. It certainly wasn’t portable compared to today’s standards. Thank goodness for technology. I’m sure John Lennon would have loved the iPod.
The contents of the jukebox are 40 records, labels written in Lennon’s hand writing, which are a mix of soul, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, some that few people had ever heard of, and some classics, all of which helped to shape Lennon’s musical education and played a huge part in his songwriting.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, what you are about to see is the product of our imaginations and believe me, at this point they are quite vivid.” – Paul McCartney
The Beatles’ 1967 Magical Mystery Tour Feature Film which has been out of print has been fully restored with a remixed stereo soundtrack by Apple Films for DVD and Blu-Ray release on October 8th, 2012. Word out is that there will even be a limited theatrical release beginning September 27th.
Whether you’re a player who was around way back in ’64 when they landed on American soil, or a younger player, no matter what type of music that you play, these guys were such a big part of music history that they had a big influence on most guitar players and song writers who came after them.
Even if their influence didn’t directly influence you and your playing, there’s a good chance that they probably had influenced the players that you knew as you were growing up. They had a tremendous influence on my generation which caused a lot of people to get interested in playing music.
These videos aren’t in any chronological order whatsoever. Great history though. Something new for some of you and a hop,
The Hofner 500/1 is a very light weight bass guitar which became extremely popular in rock music after a certain young man from Liverpool, England made it his main instrument. He had taken up the task of bass player in a “great little band” he belonged
This page has me thinking about BBQ right off the bat. Those smokey, spicy, Louisiana hot links are what comes to my mind. Ummmm… Now that I got that out of my system, this is about the other type of hot link.
These hot links are the ones that are much more time sensitive and have an expiration date that will probably be on us much quicker than the date on your edible variety. If you have the means and can do any of these before they expire, they’ll be well worth your time! – Jack
If you are one of the fortunate ones who will be able to get to the final day of Winter NAMM 2013 on Sunday, January 27th – Anaheim, California…you probably already know about the free screening of The Wrecking Crew Film.
If you don’t, it’s happening in Room 204-B @ 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Here’s a trailer just to give you a little bit of information about this fantastic movie by award winning film maker Denny Tedesco, son of the late, great guitarist, Tommy Tedesco, who was a member of The Wrecking Crew.
Well, if the trailer didn’t spell it out for you…
This looks to be one really cool movie. The rights to purchase all of this great music so that this wonderful film can be released are a bit on the $$$Spendy side. Hopefully soon though, enough money will be raised to get this great film released.
Denny Tedesco let me know that there will also be a special screening on February 9, 2013 @ 8:00 p.m. honoring drummer Hal Blaine. He also mentioned that “Nancy Sinatra will be joining us as well as a couple of other folks of the day.”
Here’s that info:
And here’s a link to some upcoming screenings that will be taking place:
http://wreckingcrew.tv/upcoming.html
Since I’m unable to make it to NAMM this year I’d like to give a shout out for Denny Tedesco and myself to Voyage Guitar, Beamz, and Heil Sound for all of the great support that these sponsers have given to The Wrecking Crew Film!
We all need to do what we can to help Denny Tedesco get this FANTASTIC film out there. It would be so very cool if one (or several of you for that matter) guitarists out there with a love for what’s going on here and have been blessed to make your living from music, decide to step up to the plate and help Denny get this ultra very cool movie out there for everyone who has any music in them to enjoy.
These great musicians played a huge part in many of our lives and the time has come to get their story out.
We’ll be doing a more in depth Feature Post on The Wrecking Crew Film in the near future so keep an eye out.
Many thanks to Denny Tedesco for this great film!!! – Jack

When you think of all the great guitar playing that Kid Ramos has given us over the years, it’s just mind boggling. It’s time for us to give back to Kid as we all can, whether it be by donations to his medical fund or even just some kind encouraging words to Kid, his wife Linda, and their family.
Without getting too deeply into any specifics, Kid is in a fight with cancer which he’s going to battle right out of his body. It would be great if we all rally around him and cheer him and his family on through this tough ordeal. TOGETHER WE WILL WIN!!!
Heres a really cool article written by a great friend of mine. BOB MYTKOWICZ is a fine musician with whom I have had the pleasure of playing in a few different bands. Hes an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, bassist, keyboard player and drummer. Hes also valued by many as a Beatles Authority. I believe his trips to Liverpool and London happen at least twice yearly these days. Heres an article that Bob did for Guitar Player Magazine and he has also given permission for me to reprint it here for those who want to be in the know about these guitars that played such a huge part in the history of the instrument. Many thanks, Bob! – Jack
I can still see Ed Sullivan standing there saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, the Beatles!” That’s how seventy three million other people and I were introduced to the Beatles. Although I was quite young, the Beatles left an indelible impression on me. John Lennon stood on the right. In his straddle stance, he bounced slightly to the rhythm and strummed a small black guitar. George Harrison in the center, almost hidden behind a large double cutaway guitar, concentrated on his playing. Paul McCartney on the left, the most animated, played a violin-shaped guitar. The drummer, Ringo Starr, perched on a riser behind, broke into an occasional grin.
It is safe to assume that most people see this picture when they envision the Beatles. Press and photo coverage escalated when world fame struck the Beatles in 1964, and most photos show them playing the same instruments. The Fab Four did use this same gear for most of their touring years, but they possessed and used much more. As the Beatles’ studio experience grew, they often tried one of their ever-growing collection of instruments. Of course they also used other equipment on stage as well. This is pretty cool. An insider’s look at these guitars which were such a huge part of rock history from George Harrison’s private collection. There are photos, 360° imaging, plus audio and video. George talks about some of these great instruments and how they came to be part of his collection. There is a history of each
Yeah guitars….. Theres not too many things on the planet that are as cool as these guys. Im going to rattle on a little bit here about my introduction to guitars and the effect that they have had on me. Im goin way back. I suspect that theres a few of you out there that will understand the following and may remember similar times.
As a 5 year old kid, I had already kind of figured out just how special this instrument would be to me. The lure of it dangled right out there in front of me, was almost intoxicating, and seemed as if it was there just for me. I was destined to discover the magic which the guitar was and is, so readily available to share with me, as I got closer to it. I think most young kids, if put into the same room as a guitar, cant help but be drawn to it, almost as if there was some type of magnetic attraction. There really is a strong desire to want to get their hands on it. Ive witnessed this more times than I can count.
I remember the excitement of the first guitar that I actually touched… It wasnt an expensive guitar by any means. It belonged to one of my uncles who was living with us at the time. He would always warn me when he was getting ready to leave the house. Whatever you do, dont touch my guitar. I knew it wasnt locked up, but so readily accessible and inviting. The guitar lay on its back, without a case, underneath his bed, calling me, to come, just a little bit closer… the forbidden fruit.
